Easter in Paris 2018

11 January 2018

A Five-Star Spring Break at Hotel de Vigny

With the onset of spring comes the return of (much appreciated) mild weather, flower-filled jardins and bustling café terraces. It also heralds the arrival of Easter in Paris, and plenty of ways to celebrate the occasion. Here’s just some of the cultural discovery that awaits during a luxury five-star stay at Hotel de Vigny this Easter.

Easter Mass at Notre Dame

On any given day, a visit to the legendary Notre Dame Cathedral will enrich any Paris itinerary. Here you can marvel at the magnificent Gothic architecture, which from a distance appears to rise straight from the heart of the Seine.

Upon closer inspection, hours can be spent tracing the intricacies of the masonry, and of course, the structure’s iconic gargoyles. But at no other time throughout the year does Notre Dame’s unwavering importance become more apparent than during Easter. This is chiefly due to the cathedral’s hosting of a traditional mass service, to which, tourists flock from all over the world. Needless to say, to attend this spiritual spectacle, you’ll have to get there (quite a bit) in advance.

However, you don’t have to queue among mass-goers to experience the splendour of Notre Dame. A favourite pastime of many a visitor is to hole up in one of the many surrounding cafés, and admire the iconic twin-spires over coffee! Then, simply wait and listen out for the singular sound of Emmanuel - Notre Dame’s 13 ton, 337 year-old bell - ringing out across the capital.

On Good Friday a trip inside Notre Dame will reveal with some of the most precious religious relics known to man. Among them, a nail from the crucifixion of Christ, a fragment from the True Cross, and the (literal) crown in the collection, Christ’s Holy Crown.

Easter Concerts at La Sainte Chapelle

30th March – 2nd April 2018

Another of the capital’s Gothic triumphs, La Sainte Chapelle, is also home to a culture-crammed schedule over the Easter weekend, culminating in a series of spectacular concerts.

Set within the awe-inspiring interiors of the 13th century chapel, there truly is no better way to experience an evening of classical music in Paris. Here, you can experience the majestic sounds of Mozart, Haydn and Bach, reimagined courtesy of a range of celebrated musicians from across the continent. But, it is said interiors which heighten any evening at La Sainte Chapelle; as you savour the singular acoustics produced by the chapel, whilst marvelling at the 1,113 stained-glass windows, each telling their own kaleidoscopic story.

Again, advanced booking is highly recommended to avoid disappointment, but should you not to be able to attend these magical evenings, visiting La Sainte Chapelle by day is a more than satisfactory substitute, when the stained-glass windows are at their dazzling best.

Easter Indulgence at Penati al Baretto

Of course, Easter is first and foremost a religious celebration of rebirth and renewal. But as we all know, Easter is also a time to enjoy a spot of indulgence. Which is why at Penati al Baretto, we will be serving a mouth-watering, Michelin-starred menu of gourmet Italian cuisine - courtesy of chef extraordinaire Alberico Penati - over the course of the Easter weekend.

And as soon as you step inside Penati al Baretto, a warm welcome awaits amid the unpretentious Art Deco interiors, where Penati himself takes you on a toothsome tour of La Penisola! But in the meantime, you can sneak a peek at his masterful menu here.
