Escape Reality at Comic Con Paris this October

4 October 2017

Cosplayers, Game of Thrones Stars & Academy Award Winners Descend on Grande Halle de La Villette

This October, all eyes turn to Paris as Comic Con arrives in the city, bringing with it an influx of caped crusaders, bloodcurdling baddies, accomplished artists, and Academy Award Winners! But above all, where else in the world can you brunch with Boba Fett, play retro gaming consoles with the Joker, and discuss current affairs with Brienne of Tarth? All taking place at Grande Halle de La Villette, just five minutes from Hotel de Vigny.

Comic Con Paris (CCP)

Grande Halle de La Villette

27th October – 29th October 2017

After attracting more than 30,000 visitors to the first edition of Comic Con Paris in 2015, France’s biggest modern pop culture convention will this October return to the Grande Halle de La Villette, for its most out-of-this-world instalment to date!

Set across three action-packed days, visitors will be submersed in the weird and wonderful world of comic book culture - as you escape reality with cosplay, encounter your heroes, indulge in hands on lightsaber combat, and meet industry leading professionals! Here’s some of the highlights you can look forward to at this year’s Paris Comic Con.

Get Creative with Cosplay

Costume play is no laughing matter, unless of course you want it to be - last year we saw a man dressed as an iron, posing as Iron Man - but above all, cosplay is an opportunity to escape from reality! Being your favourite movie, comic, or video game characters can be great fun, especially when you’re in a room full of people with shared enthusiasms. After all, where else can you see Snowtroopers socialising with Rebel Pilots? Let alone the Joker(s)!?

Which is why CCP will this year house a dedicated Cosplay Zone, where amateurs, professionals, children, and adults alike can socialise in a fittingly themed area - filled with amusements spanning: animations, live entertainment, video games, musical performances, and interactive exhibitions.

Putting in maximum effort to your costume is also advised, however; seeing as the third edition of the French Championships of Cosplay will be held on Saturday 28th October, with the winners being flown out to Chicago in 2018 to compete at C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay! But, even if you aren’t successful, fret not. Halloween follows just three days later, ensuring you get maximum use out of your costume!

Meet Your Heroes

Star Wars fans in particular are in for treat at Comic Con Paris, with a guest appearance from Joe Johnston - the man who created the final designs for the Millennium Falcon, X-Wings, Y-Wings, Imperial Star Destroyers, The Death Star, AT-ATs, Yoda, and Boba Fett! Plus, just in case that isn’t impressive enough, Johnston also won an Academy Award for his Visual Effects on George Lucas’ Raiders of the Lost Ark, and has since gone on to direct Hollywood Blockbusters like Captain America: The First Avenger.

Also joining Johnston is Finn Jones, who you will know better as Game of Thrones’ Loras Tyrell (RIP) and more recently as the title character in Marvel’s latest offering - Iron Fist. Further Sith-fuelled satisfaction is also provided by Glynn Dillon - Star Wars’ current costume designer, who can be credited with the concept behind Kylo Ren’s Darth Vader-inspired mask!

Immerse Yourself in the Action

While Comic Con takes its inspiration from movies, video games, TV shows, and comic books; if you thought it was all watching, playing, and reading, you are very much mistaken! Here’s a few of the ways in which you can immerse yourself in your favourite franchises, this year.

Always fancied yourself as a bit of a Jedi? Or a Sith? (Boo) - Sport Saber League will be on hand to teach you the ways of the force, as you enrol in the first lightsaber duelling academy in France! Further combat training also awaits with the 501st Legion French Garrison - so don your finest Stormtrooper/Rebel Soldier attire and have your say in the sway of the galaxy, as you do battle in the nerf zone!

Retro gamers are also in for a nostalgia-inducing treat with Pix Elec - a dedicated gaming area, where you can (re)discover legendary consoles and their iconic games like: Sonic the Hedgehog on the SEGA MegaDrive, Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo, GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64, and vintage Tekken on the PS1!

Get Inspired by Industry Professionals

While cosplaying, hero meeting, retro gaming, and lightsaber duelling will be very much of the essence at Paris Comic Con 2017, the modern pop culture convention can also offer you something of an education!
In particular, budding illustrators or the simply curious can pay a visit to Artist Alley - where over 40 writers, artists, illustrators, colourists, letterers, and editors will be present, to share with you their creations and to answer any questions you may have.

Throughout the course of the three days, there will also be a number of interactive and animated lectures discussing the weird and wonderful world of comics and beyond - with some highlights including Phil Tippett: Mad Dreams & Monsters, Joe Johnston - Star Wars, and 20 years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
