Our lounge restaurant at Hotel de Vigny celebrates a milestone birthday!

'Le Baretto' celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and rings in the changes with a new menu and other interesting changes.

A new patio / fumoir complete with an over-head canopy has been created in the courtyard. Why not stop by for an afternoon coffee?

Upon your arrival you will notice a fresh new look to our entrance and a few finishing touches to the interior which we hope you will agree are in keeping with the finery of the Art Deco interior which the Baretto is famous for.

A new wine menu is now available, with a larger variety of wines from privately owned vineyards and a selection of open wines to be served by the glass at a small rate for a maximum of pleasure.

But most of all the Chef Patrick MARTEAU and the Director of the Restaurant Philippe LANDAT have created a new lounge menu in the evenings starting from 6 p.m. An absolute must to discover as of September 2010...

The Baretto has also applied the new VAT decrease, now that the new law has been approved, in order to further improve value for money.

New General Manager at Hotel De Vigny Paris

The announcement of the appointment of Mr Alexandre Scarvelis was made in March 2010. The two luxury Parisian hotels reside almost directly opposite each other on rue Balzac so they lend themselves to a joint management structure, which is how they were historically managed. The properties have quite a lot in common; they both belong to JJW Hotels & Resorts luxury hotels; both are located in the same quiet street just off the Champs Elysees and both offer quality service and amenities.

However, this is where the similarity ends. The De Vigny's ambience is quite different from that of the Balzac Hotel, having been designed by celebrated interior designer Nina Campbell, the décor is traditionally British. Walking around the hotel, it is easy to imagine that you are in a home away from home with exquisite antique pieces of furniture in every corner of the hotel. The Balzac by contrast is modern with a hint of traditional.

For Mr Scarvelis, having managed the Balzac since it first re-opened in 2007 after an extensive refurbishment, the transition to managing two hotels has been a smooth one as he was already very familiar with the property and staff whom have welcomed the new joint management structure.

You will notice quite a few changes have already taken place in the hotel, with a new PC web corner which is positioned next to the window so you can work in daylight. It features a traditional 18th century bureau and a tapestry covered screen for privacy.

Attention to detail is high up on the priority list for the friendly and professional staff and you will notice a few additions and changes that have enhanced the distinguished ambience throughout the hotel.

Paris Monet Exhibition at Grand Palais

This is a magical time of year in the city of Paris with the boulevards displaying rich shades of gold and red from the treetops, backlit with the Autumnal sun which never fails to appear in October and November.

The fiery and golden colours of Autumn were captured for eternity in some of the masterpiece paintings of Claude Monet. For the first time in 30 years, a major exhibition showcasing 160, of his paintings, on loan from as far a field as the USA, Australia and Europe, are on show at Paris' Grand Palais, which is just a 20 minute stroll down the Champs Elysees from the Hotel De Vigny.

Following major restoration and restructuring, the museum has been generating rave reviews for its ambitious project to add fresh perspective to iconic works... and after visiting it earlier this year we can understand why.

Creative Goals: Refurbishment, Reorganisation & Rehanging

One of the main aims of this project was to reorganise, re-hang and redecorate the settings of the major works, in order to create a living exhibition and a cohesive blend of artwork and environment. Edward Hopper Exhibition: See it at the Grand Palais

The Edward Hopper exhibition is taking place at the Grand Palais, Galeries nationales between October 10th 2012 - 28th January 2013 and will be showcasing a comprehensive collection of the artist's work.

Covering two main elements of his work, this retrospective exhibition will be examining, in great detail, his formative years (1900 - 1924), along with his mature years (up to 1966).

Creating American Realism

The exhibitions formative section contrasts and compares Hopper's earlier works with that of his contemporaries and a cacophony of Parisian influences; whilst the mature section centres on his evolvement into the driving force of American Realism

Delving into the complexities of his work and analysing the contradictory interpretations of his art, the exhibition is looking to offer a complete picture of the artist... even including some of the commercial illustrations he completed as part of a stoic 'day job' before finding success.

Hopper in Paris: Emergence

A large part of Hopper's early development is often attributed to the time he spent in Paris. He was influenced by the character of the city and by the work of Manet and Degas. Degas' hand is particularly noticeable in the creative stroke of Hopper's angles, symmetry and poetic drama.

Throughout his Parisian tenure, Hopper was driven towards impressionism, concentrating his technique on the exploration of harmony and sensual awakening. Back in the US he was noted for his involvement with the Ashcan School... before this collision of styles evolved into his unique area of American Realism to produce some of the most memorable art work ever created.
